Subject: Goldridge Group and oak park Station Pond Erosion Control Issues
Earlier today I met with Steve of Goldridge Group and Mitch Johnson
Representing Browns creek Watershed District in reference to the erosion
control problems at the Kern center pond.
The ditch leading from the new section of the pond to the west has eroded
badly. The ditch is undercutting itself and the undercut is moving west.
This undercutting was happening before oak Park Station was developed and
we had hopped that the pond expansion and the widening of the ditch as a
part of the pond development would have stopped the undercutting. This did
not work.
Only a portion of the water causing the problem in this area is from oak
Park Station. Goldridge is going to address the erosion control issues
that are totally their responsibility such as downed silt fences and dirt
in the pond that is from oak Park Station only. They are going to put
together cost estimates to address the ditch undercutting issues and
removal of sediment from the pond from the undercutting. Goldridge group
did not maintain their erosion control fences in the ditch that would have
minimized the sediment from entering the pond.
The two solutions discussed on site were to install a series of rock cutoff
dams along the ditch With the first one at the current undercut site and
then several more to the east and the install a rock spillway the length of
the ditch starting at the point of the current undercutting.
The next issue is to determine the contribution of oak Park Station to the
ditch undercutting and determine a method of financing the repair.
