THE CITY HALL OF OAK PARK HEIGHTS
14168 North 57th Street
Oak Park Heights, Mn 55082
Attention: Thomas M. Melena
and other City Council Members
I received your notice dated May 13th, 1998, regarding the
feasibility and subsequent options of constructing an east/west
connection from City Hall to Oak Green Avenue.
As a resident now living on 57th Street North, I cannot agree
with the advantages of these options. Our street is a quiet
residential street where many families enjoy pushing a baby buggy
and some of us older residents enjoy the walk with a cane. If
the City opens this street to heavier motor vehicle traffic the
tranquil neighborhood we now enjoy would be lost forever.
If this would be approved, we may need sidewalks on both sides of
57th Street North for a safer neighborhood, or open up a street
from Oakgreen Avenue to the City Hall and deadend this street at
the City Hall parking lot. This would allow the heavy traffic to
the City Hall caused by those who get building permits and for
voting. Without sidewalks to accommodate the families who
frequently walk with their toddlers and push baby buggies and the
older folks who walk daily with their canes, heavier traffic is
not fair reasoning. If the residents of 57th Street North and
their guests would park on both sides of their street, it would
not be able to handle the heavier two way motor vehicle traffic.
Let' s be more realistic and take more time in making these
critical changes until all agree to this drastic change. Maybe a
larger and better located site for a future City Hall for Oak
Park Heights should be seriously considered. The reason we, the
residents of this beautiful area, are concerned is because we try
to protect our homes and streets so we can enjoy a safe and sane
community. /7
