Re: Parking Pad Installation
Dear Colleen and Tom:
I was in your neighborhood today and noticed that at some point since our conversations of earlier this
summer, you have started the installation of a parking pad off your driveway. This is a great idea for
additional parking at your place, especially with winter around the corner.
This letter serves as a quick reminder that City Zoning Ordinances require a permit for the installation of
a parking pad, a fence, a storage shed, etc. I have enclosed building permit for your use. Please
complete the application and return it to my attention, with a dimensional drawing of the new parking
pad, including its setback from your side-yard property line and the material you will be using to finish it.
Note that by City Ordinance, an "approved" parking pad shall be hard surfaced constructed of asphalt,
concrete, cobblestone, paving block or crushed rock that meets class 5 materials specifications and has
at least a 4-inch base. Parking pads must also extend directly from your driveway, away from your
house and may be located within the front, side or rear yard setbacks, though the pad must be at least
5-feet from your rear yard property line.
Parking pad permits have a flat rate fee of$25.00. If you have hired a contractor to install the pad for
you, they are required to be licensed by the City of Oak Park Heights and can obtain a license application
at City Hall or at the City's webpage—www.cityofoakparkheights.com.
Thanks,
Jul.- ultman
