Subject: Temporary seed mixture.
I noticed that the seed mixture for the disturbed areas was specified as 20B which is for Sandy Prairie - tall grasses as
a permanent cover. This is not a fast growing temporary cover. If the area is to be sodded within a short period of time
it is a huge waste of money and not much will be produced. MNDOT 110B is their Spring/Summer Cover for
temporary cover with planting from May 1 through Sep 30 (100% oats). If seeding is later then use 100B (100%
wheat). While these do not look very good they are fast growing plants with large root structures to hold the soil. If
you are anticipating a year or more before the permenate cover is established MNDOT 150 (rye grass, wheat grass,
clover and alfalfa). It has less roots than the oats or wheat but will give you cover for several years.
