Sign and Special Event Permit Requirements
Dear Owner/Manager:
A new permanent sign has been placed at the former Greenbrier Apartment development now known
as St.Croix Crossings. Banner advertisement has also been placed to the ends of two of the
apartment buildings.
I am writing to you advise you of City Ordinance 401.15.G.,which regulates both permanent and
temporary(special event)signage within the City of Oak Park Heights. I have enclosed copies of
Ordinance 401.15.G.9.c as it relates to permanent signs allowances in the R-B, Residential/Business
transitional zoning district, where the complex is situated and Ordinance 4015.15.G.8 as it relates to
special event(temporary)signage. Permits are required for both permanent and special event
signage.
The freestanding sign was placed without a request for permit or review. The banners have been
installed without request or issuance of a permit for their placement. Both having been installed
without the required permits are in violation of City Ordinance 401.15.G.
With this letter, you are directed to complete and return the enclosed permit application for the
freestanding sign installed, along with plans that depict the material composition and sizing elements.
The sign should have been installed by a licensed contractor. A copy of the contractor license is
enclosed. These should be returned to my attention with the contractor license fee, certificate of
insurance and$100 sign permit fee no later than January 31,2014.
There is no fee associated with the special event permit, which does limit advertisement to 50 days
per calendar year. With this letter you are directed to remove the banners no later than Monday,
January 27, 2014 or obtain special event permit approval for their placement.
Your prompt attention is appreciated. Please contact me with any questions you may have.
Sincerely,
u Itman, Building Official
