Arborist also attended site review meetings with staff and developer regarding some of the development projects. Arborist worked with City staff on implementation of the Tree Protection Ordinance - 5 development projects within the City required tree protection and tree replacement review&inspection. 2013 Removal of more than 20 ash trees in boulevard rights-of-way and park areas and planting of new trees of other species to increase tree species diversity now that emerald ash borer has been found in Minnesota. Most of the ash removed had significant storm damage(canopy fractures or wind-throw of tree)due to serious storms in June 2013. This year,the Arborist prepared a summary of benefits and costs associated with injection of high value ash in good condition,with systemic insecticides, to help in management of EAB once it 2pRLars in Oak Park Hei ts. winter through fall 2013 Arborist wrote articles on tree-related issues for City newsletter and website winter through fall 2013 Inspection of trails, parks and boulevards for tree risk situations; risk trees pruned or removed Feb. 26,2013 Arbor Month Proclamation approved by City Council May 2013 A northern pin oak was planted in Autumn Hills Park for the city's ceremonial tree planting on May 20,2013 end of August 2013 50 trees planted as either new or replacement boulevard or park trees. summer 2013 Inspections of trees in boulevards and parks, and inspections for diseased trees on public and private property completed by Arborist; inspection of boulevard and private trees also done by Arborist at request of residents (177 tel. calls, 123 site visits)(2012: 162 telephone calls, 84 site visits). There were several serious storms in late June,which resulted in a lot of storm damage to trees. Numbers of trees pruned,removed and planted were greater in 2013 because of these storms. Tree removals and pruning done on an"as needed"basis. fall 2013 The remaining tree pruning and removals of risk, damaged,dead and diseased trees were completed. The 2013 Arbor Day Proclamation is attached. This was approved by the OPH City Council Feb. 26, 2013.
