Subject: Masonry Wall Openings
Greg:
As you requested, I have reviewed the proposed openings in the existing masonry wall at the above
location. I have had the opportunity to visit the site to observe the existing conditions and you have
provided me with architectural drawings of the existing construction and the proposed remodeling.
The wall in question does appear to be acting as a shear wall to resist the lateral wind forces acting on the
building. I have performed calculations to determine the affect of these new openings on the ability of the
wall to resist the wind loads. I find that if the openings are kept to the dimensions indicated on the
enclosed drawing, the wall will not be adversely affected.
I have also indicated on the drawing the appropriate lintel sizes over each opening.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Mattson/Macdonald, Inc.
