The organizing body for this area's Convention and Visitors Bureau, in cooperation with the
Greater Stillwater Chamber of Commerce, requests the City of Oak Park Heights appoint a
non-voting representative to the initial Board of Directors. Chuck Daugherty has agreed to serve
as the voting lodging representative from Oak Park Heights.
The initial Board will sign and file the Articles of Incorporation, develop by-laws for the
organization, and serve until the permanent Board is elected.

The City of Oak Park Heights would like to thank you for the invitation to the All Cities
Banquet on April 7. We were just about to approve a motion to arrange for a table of 8
when it was pointed out that we have a conflict on that night. Unfortunately, the City has
its annual Board of Review hearing at 5:00 p.m. and a Council work session scheduled
for 7:00 p.m. that evening, and will not be able to attend. Thank you again, and we look

Your Chamber produces and staffs a number of community events throughout the year. Most of them are
self-funding with considerable help from sponsorships. As part of your membership commitment, you have
agreed to volunteer time and/or services to the Chamber. Many businesses find that volunteering at events
is great exposure for their business as well as lots of fun. This year we have the following events scheduled:

Welfare to Work Tax Credit
You will receive a tax credit of up to 35 percent of a person's first $10,000 in qualified first
year wages after a minimum of 400 hours or 180 days have been worked. You will receive up
to 50 percent of the first $10,000 in qualified wages for the second year. The total maximum
credit you can receive is $8,500 for each new hire. There is no limit to the number of qualifying
new employees you may hire under the Welfare-to-Work Tax Credit. The dates of this program
run from Jan. 1, 1998 to April 30, 1999 and the person must be a long term family assistance
recipient.
Work Opportunity Tax Credit
You will receive a tax credit of 40 percent of a person's first $6,000 in qualified wages after a
minimum of 401 hours have been worked. If the person works at least 120 hours but less than
400 hours, you may still receive a tax credit of 25 percent of the first $6,000 in wages. There is
no limit to the number of qualifying new employees you can hire under the Work Opportunity
Tax Credit. The dates of this program run from Oct.'97 to June `98. The person hired must
belong to one of eight targeted groups.

♦ Veteran receiving food stamps for at least 3 of the last 15 months
♦ Ex-felon released in last 12 months, income less than 70% of Gov't lower level standard
♦ Youth between 18 and 25 years old, living in enterprise community
♦ Vocational rehabilitation client with a written state rehabilitation plan
♦ Summer youth 16-18 years old living in enterprise community
♦ Food stamp recipient during 3 of last 5 months and age 18 to 25 years old
♦ SSI recipient receiving SSI benefits for any month within 60 days of hire date
