Box 2007 Oak Park Hei MN 55082 Dear Mr. Melena: Thank y ou for our meetin and the opportunit to clarif rumors and issues that affect both of our or I am sendin this letter in appreciation of the conversation and to affirm our a Ropes Course Re 1. 1 have spoken to Mr. Dan Parker re the issues surroundin the ropes course re and his conversations with staff members of Oak Park Hei He did not have the understandin that Kris needed the criteria District 834 have concernin the hours of operation for fields etc. That information is attached to this letter. 2. Thank y ou for the clarification that the memo dated March 1, 2000 from Scott Richards to Kris Danielson is an internal memo to which we can and should make comment. We have done so in the cover to the information y ou re and referred to in #L 3. Considerin the re for trained staff, the cost of such staff, and the limited number of such staff, I believe that there would be ver minimal use of the ropes course on a Sunda an time durin the y ear. However, specificall limitin the use of the ropes course on Sunda or holida is unacceptable to the District. Other educational facilities in District 834 includin stadiums, auditoriums, classrooms and pools are used on Sunda Recreational use of our communit facilities also occurs on Sunda and holida The ball fields and soccer fields throu the District, includin those in Oak Park Hei are used on weekends includin Sunda The ropes course is an educational resource that is uni Yet, usin it does not involve si increases in traffic or parkin issues, nor does it lead to g reat noise. We re that restrictions to the use of the course on Sunda and holida be removed from the amendment to the conditional use permit. 4. We will have representatives at the Plannin Commission meetin of April 13, 2000. 5. As per our conversation, I anticipate that the re for an amendment to the CUP will be acted upon b the Cit Council on April 25, 2000. Access to District 834 Prop ert — It is clear from our conversation that the rumor re the denial of access to the propert owned b District 834 on the south east ed of the Environmental Learnin Center is false. District 834 contributes $40,000 toward the compensation for a police liaison officer. The monthl salar of an officer will be approximatel $4,700 in the 2000-200,1 school y ear. Nine months of compensation would be approximatel $42,300. 1 understand that this is the cost of the officer to be paid b District 834 for 2000-2001. 4. 1 had a conversation on March 22 with Chief Swanson as a follow-up to our conversation. I appreciate the chance to talk and learn of the direction of the Chief. He stated that there will be a chan in police liaison assi for next y ear. He will discuss chan in officer assi with Principal Bianchi. He is willin to work with the principal of SAHS to set up re scheduled reviews of the officer and our work with the Oak Park Hei police department. Communication has improved this y ear, and I value Chief Swanson's willin to improve our workin relationship. It is m hope that if either of our collea or us, are approached about an incident or topic about which we do not have first hand knowled of, we will defer comment.
