RM Request for ModWcations of Conditional Use Permit (CUP)
Growth in student population and the. concomitant staff and services that accompany student growth
have affected the capacity of our present packing lot to serve the parking needs of our school facility.
This memo offers Information to help you understand those needs and the steps we are taking to
resolve some of the parking concerns on the Stillwater Area High School Campus. The proposed plan
would bring us to a total of 887 parking spaces.
Curt t Cp p§Lg4y. We presently have 809 designated paving spaces on our campus to accommodate
staff, students, and visitors,
Cu Po cation: vVe have a student population of approximately 2200 students and over 16S staff
(including teachers, administrators, counselors, custodians, cooks, paraprofessionals and secretaries)
who service these students.
Nods We need additional parking for staff and visitors. Creating additional paling for these groups
Wil free up spares that can be made available for students who drive to school. Mowing staff to park
along the perimeter of the building would make available hearty 70 additional parking spaces in the
"Student/Staff Lot' for student parking. An additional eight (8) visitor parking spaces should help
eliminate short term parking in the fire lane in front of the Administration entrance to the school. These
changes require a modification of our curnent CUP.
AdmigigMfive Chan : Several administrative changes should help reduce the number of students
driving to school. (1) The number of daily parking passes will now be limited to 25. In the past
anywhere from 50 to 100 passes were being issued on a daily basis. (2) Students who attend classes
fbr part of the day at l ntemiediate District 916 will be required to use school provided transportation.
This should reduce the number of students who want to drive to school so as to transport themselves
and others to 915. They will not have that option.
1.'on - term Pl : At this tune, there are no plans for adding a sipfficant area to our present parking lot.
Disuict budget priorities requ.4e funds be allocated for more urgent needs. Next mm mer, the lot will he
revealed and new lines paintc& We will look w snake the best use of existing space when refining the lot.
We will continue to en cmmge students to car pool; we will continue work with our student parking lnt
committee to develop policies and procedures that are fair and reasonable is governing our parking lot, and
we will cooperate with Oak Park Heights Police in mmn a safe parking and driving arm around our
school.
